Engraving of a drawing by master draughtsman Niccolò Vanni, who documented many archaeological finds, particularly Pompeii and Herculaneum, as well as imagined scenes from Ancient Greek and Roman life. His work was one of the direct influences of the Neoclassical movement. This engraving depicts a port, complete with several Roman soldiers and a helpful scale at the bottom. Newly framed in a heavy Burl frame with a gilt filet.
