Wonderful early 19th century (likely 1805-1810) portrait of a young man done with the stippling technique and a washed background in watercolor, likely on ivory, in a gold tone frame. He was likely a sailor or naval officer as indicated by the anchor on his neckcloth. Frame has a tiny bead at top of the bail. He has several delightful curls on his forehead. The miniature is backed with with silk. The overall effect is very playful and light. American or English. Sitter's identity is unknown.
